I'm currently typing with only nine fingers. This makes for slow blogging. It is especially frustrating because the missing finger is the index finger of my right hand...I need it for fencing and Saturday is the big day. OK, its not actually missing, just hurts to touch the tip of it to anything. Cat attacked it.
Anywho, I've decided to keep a blog of my adventures (this is it!) so I don't have to rely on my terrible memory. First up is my inaugural USFA electric tournament. I'm competing in epee and dagger/epee. There are currently only 14 of us preregistered for the dagger event (with 4 of us from TBF), but there are over 60 fencers registered for the epee event! Included in the 60 epeeists are a handful of A and B rated fencers. Now, I wouldn't say I'm terrified of these high rated folks but I'm definitely not over-confident.
I've fenced hard with TBF for the past two nights, and I'm sore. I have one more night of preparation (taking tonight off) before heading to Gainesville and then on to Jax for the main event Saturday morning. I'll update this post with info as I think of anything worthwhile to say.
UPDATE (Friday morning):
So the gang is headed up to G'ville tonight so that we only have half the drive in the morning. I'm at work and can't concentrate. Tooooo excited. Nervous, too. I haven't done an electric tournament before and I am not sure of all the little things I'll need to do and say and notice. I just realized I forgot to pack my cup and bring my checkbook...but I think I have the rest of the stuff I need and hope they don't do a 'cup check' with a saber. Oh, and my finger is almost completely healed now in case you were worried.
UPDATE (Friday evening):
As I wait for the gang to come and scoop me up from work I'm thinking about my goals for this tournament. I don't expect much success, I certainly don't have delusions of winning (tho crazy things happen on the strip! ). Mostly I just want to have fun and not be completely exhausted before the end. If I can make through my last bout, no matter when it comes, without feeling like I lost soley because of me being out of gas I will consider the day a huge success. I only ever want that first point, cae one bout. The rest is gravy!
UPDATE (Sunday morning):
So i was right about my success having been beaten in a very tough dagger bout in the first round of DE's and not making the DE's in epee. I was also right about the fun! What a blast! Ole did very well, losing only one bout (i think) and that was to Matt who went on to win the whole thing! TBF took home first and second place in the first ever DFA tournament!! I'm going to take a nap now. Pics to come as available.
